Petrified Wood with Crystals Chinle Fm. AZ Triassic
Likely Araucarioxylon arizonicum, Possibly Woodworthia arizonica or Schilderia adamanica. Formation: Very Likely Chinle Formation. Location: Very Likely Arizona. Age: Very Likely Triassic, 240-215 mya. A large piece of Petrified Wood with very defined grains. Unfortunately not much else is known about this piece. Weight 8.1 lbs. Arizona’s Chinle Formation preserves fossils from most of the Triassic Period. It is known primarily for preserving massive varieties of Trees and Plants from the Late Triassic, approximately 225 million years ago. A large amount of these can be found in Petrified Forest National Park in Northeastern Arizona. They are known for their beautiful red and yellow colors, coming from iron oxide, limonite and hematite being deposited throughout the quartz which makes up these pieces.
