Arizona Petrified Wood Matched Bookends, 7 lbs, Original Label, Felt Bottoms
Arizona Petrified Wood Matched Bookends, 7 lbs, Original Label, Felt Bottoms. Condition: Beautiful matched bookends set cut from 150 million year old Arizona petrified wood. Original label, two brown felt bottoms per bookend. Put the two polished sides together and you can see these were cut from the same stone. A spot light was used to bring out the color in the photos. Petrified wood coloration is due to the contaminating minerals in the silica which replaced the original wood structure. For example pinks and reds are due to hematite, a form of oxidized iron. The reds and oranges come from hematite inclusions within the silica, the yellows from limonite and the purples from magnesium based minerals. This is similar to petrified wood which is found in the Petrified Forest National Park. Source: Petrified Forest National Park, Arizona. Weight: 6 pounds, 14.7 ounces. Dimension: 4.5 in.
