It’s pretty rare to find a large log section like this that is so absolutely perfect. It’s really one of the single most perfect and “wood like” Eden Valley logs we’ve ever offered! It’s hard to decide whether the exterior or the interior is the prettiest and most interesting – you’re just going to have to decide for yourself. Rich wood grain in the mirror polished face complete with agate veins make the gem like face simply breathtaking. The overall shape is just as appealing as the perfectly shaped log is. It’s frozen in time with every ridge of the original tree faithfully preserved in agate that captured every contour, insect hole and growth ring of the original log! There is nice wood texture visible on the external trunk as well. One of the best you’ll ever see from this area and much better than the photos can show! Here’s a really nicely preserved, large sized petrified log from the Eden Valley petrified wood deposits in Central Wyoming. This area has several productive fossil wood beds, the most famous of which is The Blue Forest. This piece has the black and tan tinted wood grain that characterizes parts of the Blue Forest deposit (also in Eden Valley) but lacks as much of the blue botryoidal agate cast that typifies it’s sister deposit. The exterior cast is also much closer to a perfect cast than you’ll usually find in the other beds with very finely preserved wood grain features on the outside of the log. The wood itself is fabulously preserved right down to the microscopic level and it has lots of coffee & tan colors throughout. One of the best preserved logs we’ve ever seen from this area. This wood comes from a sagebrush desert in central Wyoming. The digging is hot and dusty, but every once in a while you stumble on a real treasure and this little log is one of them! The rich, coffee colors the wood is preserved in are characteristic of these specimens, as are the infusions of agate that filled the cracks and coated the limb! This is a very “woody” log that has been cut and polished to show off all the gemmy detail inside. It really took a pretty awesome polish, even by our high standards.
