SiS WILD & COLORFUL AGATE BRECCIA 14 Madagascar Petrified Wood with Tube Agate
This extra thick petrified wood slab is cut from one of the most amazing Madagascar logs I’ve encountered. It’s also without a doubt one of the most intriguingly colorful and visually captivating petrified wood slabs I’ve seen anywhere! This gorgeous, 100% naturally colored gem fossil features more subtle orange, rootbeer, red, white and other tones than any I’ve seen from Madagascar in years – or any other petrified forest for that matter! This is a large, thick slab at and it is a virtually perfect specimen from the most solid part of this very colorful, breccia patterned log! The colorful patterns preserved in this ancient fossil conifer are really beyond words. There is a breccia mosaic in some areas, botryoidal tube agate in parts of the cavity, and finely detailed fortification agate interspersed everywhere amidst the well preserved fossil wood structure! Most of the detail in a larger piece like this is lost in the photo because there simply aren’t enough pixels on the screen to capture the details I’ve included a close-up photo of part of the to help show how intricate the pastel color pattern really is! In person however, the wood grain structure, color, and agate inclusions are truly breathtaking. This slab was actually cut and exported. I picked it up from a friend in Tucson and re-worked the finish in my shop because I felt the piece deserved to be shown off properly. It turned out even better than I’d hoped! This is a true museum piece and you just can’t beat the price for a well polished, virtually flawless and ancient piece of natural art this size! There are some bits missing from the cavity that I probably could have preserved had I been fortunate enough to cut this log, but it is a natural cavity and it only adds to the visual fascination of the log. The rich color and mirror perfect finish in this exceptionally preserved specimen are going to have to be seen to be believed, as is that incredible breccia! This one is more than thick and large enough to be used as an end table but it is also one of the most incredible pieces of wall art you’ll ever lose yourself in! One of the largest and most productive petrified forests on the planet is on the huge island of Madagascar off the southern African coast. While many have seen the bland and lifeless specimens that are most typically found in this huge deposit, few have had the opportunity to see the top grade, colorful gem fossils that are occasionally unearthed there. Fewer still get to see them properly prepared with a mirror finish to reveal all of the rich fossil wood grain and color! Even the rind on this log is amazing, offering up a perfectly contrasting sandy texture that still looks like a log today. This year we located a new source of logs that have produced some truly museum grade specimens and this stunning monster is definitely one of them! The color alone makes it a collector piece – but add in all the other features in this nearly flawless specimen and you can see why I was so excited to have found the log! They truly do not get much better than this folks, no matter what forest you’re looking at! It’s just amazing how beautiful petrified wood can be and this fine specimen found halfway around the world shows to what lengths people will go to bring these treasures to market! If you don’t own a top grade piece from this increasingly important deposit yet in your own collection, this is your chance. This is a complete round cut from the center of a nice sized log. It shows the distinct (and uncommon to see so well in logs from this location) honeycomb grain structure of modern conifers (no resin canals visible) which makes it related to modern fir and sequoia (it’s probably Araucaria). This stone has been professionally polished on our own custom built laps that produce a flat face and a mirror perfect shine. It is a full slab cut from the center of the log. The polish really is liquid perfect – a difference in the quality products Sticks-in-Stones has built its reputation on! It’s also a nice to display size with enough presence to be a center piece on a wall – it measures about 14″ x 12 1/4″ across the mirror polished face and is cut at a very slight taper that goes from about 3/4″ to 1″ thick.
