This is a gorgeous hand picked petrified wood specimen of the extinct conifer Araucaria. It comes from Madagascar. The age of the specimen is approximately 220 million years old (Triassic Period). The specimen is polished on one side. A particularly nice, and quite uncommon feature of this specimen is a beautiful area of pink coloration! This is well illustrated in photos 2 – 3. Although Araucaria is not rare, it is hard to find really nice specimens such as this one! The specimen displays some really interesting fluorescence under long wave (photos 8 -9) and short wave (photos 6 -7) UV light. Any purple is reflected light. Short wave photo taken with Super Bright lamp, long wave with 36 watt Way Too Cool lamp. Please note special UV lamps are mandatory to visualize the fluorescence. All photos taken with my iPhone :. Size: 7 5/8 x 7 1/2 x 7/16. Weight: 2 lb 9.2 oz (810 g). The item “OUTSTANDING (7 5/8) FLUORESCENT ARAUCARIA PETRIFIED WOOD, MADAGASCAR” is in sale since Friday, May 31, 2019.
