Petrified Plant Algae from Wyoming + Utah both Polished one side Rare Specimens
Petrified Plant Algae from Wyoming and Utah both Polished on one side. Both Solid plus Very Rare to find! . Large Specimen of Fossilized Algae with nice polish on one end and some Natural holes/spaces on the polished face but they go with the formation processes of geologic time and actually add to the character of this very unique specimen. Exact site of extraction is unknown other than the state of Wyoming but likely a swamp or bog that contains fossils nowadays? Very solid specimen for sustainability and display. Measures about 4 in x 4 in x 2.5 inches and weighs 2 pounds 3 ounces. Smaller piece is locally called Birdseye Marble in Utah. These Birdseye features were formed by Algae that grew around snail shells, twigs or other debris. The Algae used these objects as a nucleus forming into unusual, elongated or circular shapes. Time frame for these growths was about 58 to 66 million years ago during the Paleocene epoch and in the area of Lake Flagstaff which was a huge body of water back then. Source is Springville, Utah County, Utah in the Manti-La Sal National Forest. Polished face has about six small hole spots where there were Natural gaps in the mass so polishing will not take them out but they do add character and reality to the state of this very rare specimen! Nice plush on this beautiful dark piece of Birdseye Marble that is actually Petrified Algae. Measures about 3.25 in x 2 5/8 in x 0.75 inches on widest part of back side and weighs 4.6 ounces.
