Petrified Wood Section recovered in Hanover County, Va. At least 10 MILLION YEARS OLD! Hanover County, Virginia is not known for it’s Petrified Wood but This piece weighs a whopping 6.5 pounds! It was recovered in a sand pit adjacent to the North Anna River decades ago and still shows it’s grain as well as bark. Specimens such as this are rare as the majority of Petrified Wood pieces come from either Prince William County, Dinwiddie County or in the Appalachians in the western part of the state. No major find of petrified wood this size has ever been documented in Hanover County, Va. Thanks for looking, Dave.
