Petrified Peanut Wood Polished Fossil Lapidary Display Australia 6 lbs 8″X5.5″. This is a very lovely, large, polished specimen of Peanut Wood, some conifer tree from Australia. Peanut Wood is not really peanut wood; peanuts grow in the ground and not on a tree. It is called “peanut” wood because of the peanut-shape cream color inclusions. These “peanuts” used to be holes left behind by burrowing teredo mollusks. The holes filled with matter which was eventually replaced by chert when the wood fossilized. There are fractures very common in petrified wood and more so in peanut wood because it is very brittle. The photos were taken outdoors in sunlight and color variations from the actual are possible. Display stand is not included. Approximate size based on the largest dimensions: 8″X5.5″X3.25. Approximate weight: just over 6 lbs.
