A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany this specimen. Here is a superb full round piece of petrified wood from the world-famous Blue Forest of Eden Valley, Wyoming. All photographs are taken dry. The whole piece measures at just shy of 7 at the longest measurement, and it weighs 6 lbs. The famous gorgeous light blue agate surrounding the wood is in great abundance here, as one can see. It contrasts well with the petrified wood itself, polished on one side. This light blue agate is found only in the Blue Forest. It is actually from lakes of algae that grew here about 50 million years ago (Eocene period). The wood would come into these algae areas while still looking relatively alive. The algae would adhere to the wood, forming a cast around it. Later, the wood would dry out, shrinking it inside the cast. Silica-rich water would seep in and slowly petrify the wood. Eventually the cracks would be filled in with agate, calcite and quartz. That is what you see here. A unique set of circumstances that makes Blue Forest petrified wood different from all other wood. The back side is not polished. If it were, it would also be lovely, as light blue agate is seen in many places, and the petrified wood appears to be about as large as it is on the front (photos). Blue Forest petrified wood is found about 30 miles west of Farson, Wyoming, on the west end of Eden Valley. A superb example of this rare and exciting fossil showing a unique set of petrification steps. We are happy to enclose a COA (Certificate of Authenticity). Some words of caution about COA’s: Do not let them become a substitute for learning about the specimens. We have been working with fossils and minerals for many years, and we have seen hundreds of very nice-looking COA’s, some that are wrong, mis-describing a specimen. Finally, a COA, without a photo of the exact item on the COA itself, is worthless, as it can later be placed next to any other fossil or mineral. We suggest that in addition to relying on a COA, that people read and study the subject. We want to make sure you are fairly treated by us always. We cordially invite you to visit our store, and see items and fossils ranging from budget to world-class. You will receive the exact item described and photographed, unless clearly stated otherwise. If you like what we have to offer, PLEASE favorite us! It is the easiest way for you to look us up. In some cases, that is easy, in some cases, not so much. If you take it out of the United States, you are on your own. This item is in the category “Collectibles\Rocks, Fossils & Minerals\Fossils\Vegetation\Petrified Wood”.
