One more massive, amazing display of color in petrified wood to celebrate the arrival of 2021 and our newest outlet! This unbelievable gem fossil is a huge piece of petrified wood from Oregon’s famous Hampton Butte – home to the “Oregon Green” petrified wood casts. This one goes far beyond green though with a richness to the shades that might be better described as teal! The large cross section of what was once a tree trunk is now accented with red and yellow agate laced through what was the center of the log. I can honestly say I’ve never seen a more beautiful or more striking petrified wood specimen from this location – it really does look like the colors of the Christmas season frozen in stone! The highly polished stone is much, much better than I could capture in the photo – you’ll be amazed at the specimen that greets you when you open this package! Large enough to command the center spot on a mantel or bookshelf, this 100% natural fossil artwork will both awe and inspire! The base of this stone cut flat to stand erect as shown while the sides and back are rough and naturally weathered. The display face is polished to a mirror finish to bring all of the color of this ancient fossil artwork to it’s full glory! Arguably one of the most well known and interesting petrified wood deposits in Oregon is the “Green Wood” deposit at Hampton Butte in Central Oregon. This wood is more jasperized than agatized and is often more of a cast than a wood replacement, though exceptions to both of these are certainly found. The logs are more often than not fractured, but the colors are unmatched anywhere else. The dominant color is green – REALLY GREEN! Green in more shades than my weed infested garden! These shades can be accented with white, yellow, red, orange and other classic jasper tones – but green is what it’s all about if you’re looking for a good Hampton Butte specimen. Not every piece will polish well, and they don’t all look an awful lot like wood, but a good specimen is tough to beat and a must have for any serious petrified wood collection – or even if you just happen to love green! This big stand-up is kind of tough to get a good photo of, but the color is pretty true on my monitor. It’s a very green stone with several distinct shades ranging from almost blue to moss green. There are a lot of other shades as well, including a lot of rich rusty reds that really set the green off – a gorgeous color combination to be sure. It’s got a pretty high agate concentration and took a nice polish – something we work hard to produce on every stone we sell! I don’t see a lot of this wood for sale any more, but it really is one of the more brilliantly colored specimens you’ll find in our great state and something you will undoubtedly appreciate most when you see it in person. Our stand-up display specimens are solid, blocky chunks with the base cut flat and the face cut at a steep sloping angle to make a natural display piece that doesn’t need a stand. It’s a beautiful way to show off petrified wood and it’s tough so it’s safe to handle just don’t drop it on your foot! A quick squirt of Windex will safely wash away finger prints sure to develop when admirers instinctively touch the surface to see if it’s wet – how else could it be so shiny!! This is a really pretty and very large display sculpture. It stands about 12″ tall and measures about 12″ wide across the mirror polished face. Weight is 15.82 lbs. The item “SiS GLORIOUS 16 lb.
