The lighting conditions were marginal but this piece is so beautiful I couldn’t wait to share it! This large sculpture is both colorful and perfectly detailed – they simply don’t get much better! This is a sculpture fashioned from a log that was roughly 2/3 complete that reveals a gorgeous bubble blue agate cascading down the front as if it were pouring off of the polished face! That wood grain pattern is one of the fanciest I’ve seen in a Blue Forest log and the color simply can’t be beat. The huge patch of golden calcite accents it all very nicely! When you add in all the colorful blue agate, the knots and insect boring trails you’ve got one amazing display piece! It’s a partial log cross section cut to show the full pattern of the orignal tree. The base on this one is not cut flat as it stands on the natural bottom of the log. The face is polished to a mirror finish to bring out all of the agate, fossil detail and the color – just gorgeous! Here’s an absolutely museum grade Blue Forest petrified round cut as a stand-up specimen from the end of a perfectly formed log that captures your eye like no other log I’ve ever seen from this location! It’s got really nice wood preservation throughout with a very well defined heart in the center of the log and the most stunning wood grain you’ll ever see in one of these pieces. This is truly an absolutely flawless petrified wood round sure to be a real collection centerpiece! You could wait a long time and not see a piece this dramatic! The Blue Forest is a uniquely preserved bed of small branches and occasional logs in central Wyoming. The digging is hot and dusty, but every once in a while you stumble on a real treasure and this little log is one of them! The dark, blue/black, coffee and chocolate colors the wood is preserved in are characteristic of these specimens, as are the infusions of agate that filled the cracks and coated the log! This is a large specimen cut from the end of a larger than average sized log from a pepperwood tree. It’s been cut and polished to show off all the gemmy detail from this 50 million year old treasure captured inside. It took a pretty awesome polish – something we strive to produce on every specimen we put our name on! The fibrous cell structure of the radial wood grain is exceptional and easily studied with a hand lens. This is a nice, eye catching specimen, and it is close to perfect – something that will show proudly in any collection. It measures about 6 1/2″ tall and is about 6 3/4″ wide across the polished face. This large display specimen weighs 6.28 lbs.
