SiS Giant 7+ lb. Petrified Tree Fern Log Premium Tietea
This is a really nice, finely detailed and very colorful Tietea singularis tree fern petrified log! This log comes from the state of Tocantins in Brazil. The particular area that this log was found in produced a lot of these beautiful white skinned logs with lovely black and orange centers. The fossils in this particular region polish extremely well and take on an almost porcelain jasper like finish making them by far the gemmiest fossil ferns on the planet! This one is exceptionally large and the cut face reveals a flawless, perfect cross section. This is a particularly solid and easily polished specimen that turned out remarkably well. The structural detail and color variety are amazing, as is the polish we achieved in preparing this incredibly beautiful piece for you. The weathered end and sides are also finely articulated and help make a magnificent fossil display specimen! The fissures and stress fractures visible in the husk so not threaten the physical integrity of the specimen and only add to the ancient natural artwork from this pre-dinosaur fossil forest! Two years ago in Tucson I saw some fabulous petrified tree fern specimens the likes of which I’d never laid eyes on. They were detailed, fascinating in their structure, and very colorful. Since then, I’ve tracked down the one miner who can legally export these fossils and visited his home and his claim in Brazil. The trip would leave me talking for days, but I’ll leave that for our website. What you can see here is one of the world class tree fern specimens we imported as a result of that trip. The fossils are reminiscent of petrified palm with a very interesting and unusual “heart”. The outer portion of the round looks a lot like palm wood with little rice grain like patterns uniformly distributed around it (this is the root mantle). The interior section is made up of a larger, less dense pattern where the heart appears to be made up of thick macaroni or brain shaped patterns these are the bundled fern xylem and they have the most spectacularly beautiful honeycomb cell structure under a 10x loupe that you’ve ever seen! This species is Tietea singularus, and comes from the Tocantins state in Brazil. The only thing that rivals the incredible detail in these ancient fossils is the colors that they’re preserved in. The best of these specimens are captured in brilliant reds, yellows, purples and other appealing colors. It’s a Permian fossil which makes it about 1/4 of a Billion years old! This log was preserved with exceptionally good quality agate that took a beautiful finish. By selecting the specimens myself, I was able to choose those that could be worked into the finest show case specimens. It takes a lot of dedication and attention to detail to produce real cabinet specimens worthy of a place in the finest petrified wood collections and at Sticks-in-Stones Lapidary, that’s how we treat every piece we produce! Our finishes are second to none – really! This complete cross section is cut from the end of an uncommonly large petrified tree fern log (rough and unfinished on the back). It’s a rich color with a subtle spectrum of shades preserved in concentric bands. It also has tons of fossil detail revealed in the mirror polished face. It was cut high up the trunk (lower percentages of roots to fern frond bundles) and shows the details of both the root mantle and fern bundles very well. It’s hard to describe, but the clear agate between the cells makes them appear to stand up in a 3-D effect that is just visually stunning! If the timeless mystery of this piece isn’t enough for you, then I’m certain the simple, natural, gemmy beauty of it will be. This piece is larger than most, and the density of the stone really needs to be seen in person to be fully appreciated. It truly looks wet and melted on the polished face! It measures about 6″ x 5 5/8″ across the mirror polished polished face and is about 4 1/2 thick on the longer side. Weight is about 7.34 lbs. The item “SiS Giant 7+ lb.
