SiS GALACTIC ARIZONA Petrified Wood Display Mantel Piece Natural Sculpture
This unbelievably colorful petrified wood fossil looks like all of the color of the universe swirling into a nebulous vortex! Historically I haven’t had the chance to work with a lot of Arizona petrified wood since decent logs are hard to come by from this forest this far north, but I do manage to stumble into a choice piece every now and then and this stunning specimen certainly is one of the prettiest larger sized rounds I’ve handled in recent years. The color in this magnificent specimen simply has to be seen in person to be truly appreciated – it literally glows and it clearly shows where Arizona “rainbow” wood gets its fanciful name! The stone was pricey, but it had such dramatic colors in a nice displayable size that I couldn’t pass it up! This log produced some of the finest and visually captivating Arizona Rainbow specimens you’ll find with truly remarkable natural color. It’s the kind of specimen that explains how this wood earned its name! The log is very nicely agatized and took a magnificent polish to bring all of that amazing color to life as only the best grades of petrified wood can. This looks to be an Araucaria (an ancient conifer). The deep red, orange, purple and yellow laced with just a touch of black combine with the ancient wood grain to make a stunning display piece! We don’t offer it often – but when we do you know it’s a great piece!! The back and sides are rough and natural, just as they came from the ground. This giant 10+ pound piece has a very impressive presence and would look amazing as a mantel piece, on a bookshelf or even a desk or table! This is a piece of petrified wood from what is arguably the most famous petrified wood deposit around – the great Arizona Petrified Forest! Don’t worry, this wood was mined (as it still is today) from a private ranch near Holbrook, AZ, not pirated away from the National Monument. The problem with being famous is the folklore that follows I suppose. The reason this wood is so famous is pretty clearly demonstrated in this gorgeous specimen. Arizona wood (Rainbow Wood as it is sometimes called) is just filled with rich colors, often dominated by red and black but covering every color in the rainbow! This lovely specimen is a very attractive and unusually patterned, richly colored log that really shows the wood grain and color off better than some of the giant display pieces often will! This piece is cut as a “stand-up” for displaying. If you haven’t seen our standup specimens before, they are larger, blockier pieces of petrified wood cut in such a way as to present a sloping face so the pieces can be enjoyed sitting on a table, desk, shelf or mantle and the polished face is visible whether you are standing in front of them or over the top of them. The pieces are quite solid and meant to be handled. A quick squirt of windex will remove fingerprints from the glassy polished surface. This lovely piece of fossil wood is ground, sanded and polished on a series of special laps we built to bring you the highest quality lapidary finish available on the market. The Sticks-in-Stones polish is something our customers have come to appreciate and seek out. We guarantee you’ll be impressed too! This piece stands about 9 1/2″ wide and 6 3/4″ tall across the mirror polished face. The base is about 3 thick at the thickest part of the cut. Weight is about 10.3 lbs.
