Rare azurite and malachite in petrified wood rough, Turkey. Colla. 3+ pounds
Rare faced rough with green malachite, blue azurite, and yellow volborthite in petrified wood (Pinus). In 2012, gold prospectors in the Tolkat province of Turkey discovered a petrified log. The log was silicified and had secondary deposition of copper minerals including azurite (blue) and malachite (green). Copper mineralization of petrified wood is very rare, and other known sites don’t produce silicified examples like this. The tree this piece was recovered from has been identified as being in the Pinus genus (similar to modern Pine). Only one log was found, and the site has since been depleted. This excellent rough shows ample blue, green and yellow mixed with some agate and hard, well preserved wood. Great addition to any petrified wood collection or for lapidary use. 1510 grams (3.3 pounds). 16cm face, 8cm max depth. Pictured wet and dry with ruler under multiple lighting conditions.
