Estimated to form 36 million years ago when fir and maple logs washed down an ancient river channel in Mississippi Delta to the current site where they later became petrified. The movement of tectonic plates caused massive earthquakes and volcanic eruptions which emerged and submerged Mississippi in ocean water multiple times over millions of years. Buried deep underneath central Mississippi is an extinct. This volcano was one of the largest in the modern day North American continent. These events caused fully grown trees to be buried by sand and mud. The trees organic material over time are replaced with silica, quartz, calcite, pyrite, or other inorganic materials. This is a very rare and valuable find! This piece of petrified wood is superb for collection or display! Contact me for further questions.
