Finest water level Yellow Cat Redwood limb Specimen collected at the East Yellow Cat Site. 5 x 3.5 x 9.5 cm, two polished faces, full round. Mirror finish and outstanding water level layers on both ends, surrounded by red rind. Total weight is 9.2 ounces. This is the second of two reassembled sections of a full cast limb found at the East yellow Cat Site. The limb is shown in the upper left corner of the last magazine photo and is the center speciman. Originally one longer limb section, I have cut the section in half and polished both cut ends. The larger end has one tiny stabilized flaw in the lower right edge that can be seen in the first photo. The smaller red end has one barite healed fracture in the middle of the face, one barite healed fracture in the upper center right and one cyanoacrylate stabilized fracture in the lower left edge. This end books to the small end of the companion limb I have listed. All other imperfections seen are either light glare or lint. All of these limbs were found naturally snapped into multiple sections due to extreme pressures caused by geological shifting of the Morrison Formation sediments. This specimen is composed of five reassembled sections. The final polish is very good and the external wood structure is fantastic. Blended seams can be seen in the photos. For those of you who are familiar with Yellow Cat Redwood, the quality of a specimen is obvious when viewing good photos, yet the clarity, depth and color are much better than the photos show. The brilliant reds and yellows are unique to this material even when seen in the rough.
